Dr Andreas Mavrides is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist. He graduated and is fully trained in the UK.
Secondary education was at The English School, Nicosia and following his National service he graduated from Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals Medical School in London in 1996.
During the period of 1996 – 2006 he worked in the UK as part of the training for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, guided by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).
In 1997 he obtained the Diploma in Family Planning (DFFP) which is a Faculty of the RCOG.
During 1999 – 2000 he was awarded, with distinction, the Masters of Medical Sciences in Assisted Reproduction Technologies from Nottingham University and continued his experience until 2003 in subfertility and assisted reproduction working at the Sheffield Fertility Centre and then at the Reproductive Unit of Hammersmith Hospital in London as a Lecturer and Research Fellow. He has gained considerable experience in this field having worked with the leaders in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery (Prof Lord R. Winston, Mr R. Margara, Mr G.Trew).
From 2001 he was working as a Specialist Registrar at the London Deanery, gaining widespread experience in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and more specifically endoscopic surgery for fertility and other gynaecological indications. He is an advanced laparoscopic surgeon (keyhole surgery) performing procedures such as removal of ovarian cysts, treatment of polycystic ovaries, removal / repair of tubes, hysterectomies etc.
In 2002 he became Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), and from 2004 has worked as a Senior Registrar at St George’s Hospital in London. St George’s is one of the busiest hospitals in the UK with just under 6,000 deliveries a year including high risk pregnancies. It is one of the UK’s centres for Gynaecological oncology where complex gynaecological surgery is performed.
He has worked in a Consultant capacity and is a member of the British Fertility Society (BFS) and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Endocrinology (ESHRE).
